Central heating and air conditioning is a beautiful thing. Being able to set a thermostat and know that your entire home will be at temperature is a convenience that is hard to beat. Like any system however, your HVAC will need to be properly cleaned from time to time. Ignoring that fact will cost your system efficiency, reduce it’s lifespan, and possibly stir up allergies, asthma, and other respiratory problems. So how do you know when it’s time to call Pacific Air Comfort?
The following are some simple checks to see if the time is now.
Probably the easiest to locate and remove. Vent registers are a good indicator as to how well your system is breathing. Using a flashlight look into your ductwork and inspect for matted hair, debris, or excessive dust.
Return Air Registers
For this one you’ll have to take the screws out to remove the cover. Is it clean, or do you see a dust or other buildup in the ductwork?
You should be changing the filter out at regular intervals. However, if there’s a large buildup of dust to the point where a light won't shine through the filter, it’s a sign that your ducts need to be cleaned.
Take the cover off and look for dirt, dust, and fuzzy layers over the fan and wires.
Ducts need to be cleaned every 2- 5 years. If it’s been longer than that, you're due.
Any one of these indicators is reason enough to call and have a professional inspection from a duct cleaner. Proper maintenance can prevent mold and other problems from developing in your house. Call Pacific Air Comfort today to schedule a free inspection.
